BIS ISI Registration

Overview

The ISI Mark is the official quality certification issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), formerly known as the Indian Standards Institute (renamed in 1987). Introduced in 1955, the ISI Mark stands as a trusted symbol of quality, safety, and reliability. It signifies that a product complies with the Indian Standards (IS) specified by BIS, thereby assuring consumers of its authenticity and performance.
Several categories of products—such as electrical appliances (electric irons, room heaters, air conditioners, electric stoves, freezers), as well as UPVC pipes, footwear, composite cements, acids, and many others—require mandatory ISI certification.

1. The ISI Mark Certificate empowers manufacturers to legally manufacture, market, and sell their products across India.
2. BIS certification authorizes manufacturers to affix the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) on products that fall under the compulsory certification scheme. Manufacturing or selling such products without certification can result in heavy penalties, imprisonment, or both.
3. The ISI Mark strengthens consumer confidence by ensuring safety, durability, and compliance.
4. BIS-certified products enhance brand reputation, customer satisfaction, and business growth.
5. Over 200 products in India require mandatory ISI certification, while certification for other categories remains voluntary but highly beneficial.
